I love this story. We are tempted to drop the ball and lighten our load in carrying our cross. I have seen a vesion of this story with the addition of one more slide.
A great hand (the Lord) is delivering a 'new' cross for us to bear. One that is big enough for us to get there. It is, at once a sign of forgiveness? but mostly that he has not forgotten us. We know this sign, it is Love.
Thank you for this story, it is a great kindness.

This man's efforts were not "ardent" at all, Chirp. Now, it is time for him to make a "leap of faith". :)

Anything cartoon or otherwise that can stimulate the mind to drawn on spiritual issues is ok by me. That could well be the topic of hours of conversation if we all were sitting around a table. ie) how compassionate would be the ones that went ahead. The what now of the little fella who couldn't make a bridge. Why was he complaining in the first place when no one else was. Perhaps those that were carrying their crosses with out complaining should have administered some pastoral care and prayed rather than whined. If only asked God would have provided the little fella with all he needed to take up the cross and follow Jesus.

There is a lesson to learn from the last pix. I hope the cross is long enough to bridge the gap. Though we have crosses burdensome but once we accept them from Christ with love, hope and trust, it will someday serve as a bridge to the gaps we meet on our journey through life. So, as we carry our crosses, though long, don't let us cut them cos they may not be long enough to bridge the gaps we meet on the way

Hi David!

I've seen the flash version of this on a Korean site before sometime in early 07. It's a beautiful clip played to a nice music.

It certainly inspired myself to live a life not discounted off what Jesus and the works of the Cross (carrying the cross) had done for me.

Thanks for sharing this. :)

I guess I am too simplistic, but my take on this cartoon when I first saw it was not that the other side of the chasm was eternal life (but that's the natural assumption I guess after reading other posts here). Rather, the chasm is one of yet many challenges we have in this early life, and had the character not trimmed off the weight of his cross earlier on, he would have been prepared to take on this larger challenge and move on. I questioned, oh how I questioned, why my wife of 27 years had to suffer a terrible illness and death relatively young. Why did I have to go through this with her as I cared for her. But I think that experience was readying me for further challenges I can already see in the here and now. In my view, the little guy would have to retrace his steps, go back, and bridge this problem in a different, more difficult way.
