News Corp. Gets Religion

Mashable reports that Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. has purchased Beliefnet, a spirituality-based website founded by Steve Waldman in 1999. No details have been released pertaining to this unconfirmed acquisition, but an announcement is expected from News Corp. sometime today.
Beliefnet has an overarching focus on spirituality, touching on Christianity, Judaism, and other forms of spirituality-based concepts. Since launching nearly ten years ago, it has branched out to include specialized sections for weddings, prayer groups, memorials, birth announcements and more.
Probably one of the real reasons why a company such as news Corp would want to buy this faith based portal is the recent beta launch of social networking functions for faith-based groups and spiritual leaders.
