Audio Sermon: Fortune Telling
December 13th, 2007 by David Wallace posted in SermonsAn interesting title for a Christian sermon as we typically don’t endorse fortune tellers or the telling of fortunes. However in this scenario, we have Jacob on his death bed surrounded by his sons. He begins to predict the future of each one which is largely based on their past. The lesson to be learned here is that we are creatures of habit. As such, our futures will not be any different from our past unless there is change in our lives.
In this message, Ray Davis explores Genesis 49, expounding on the blessings (or cursings) of each son of Jacob. Following is a summary of each son’s characteristics and whether Jacob blessed or cursed them.
- Rueben (Sexuality) Cursed
- Simeon & Levi (Anger) Cursed
- Judah (Repentance) Blessed
- Zebulun (Prosperity) Blessed
- Issachar (Laziness) Cursed
- Dan (Justice) Blessed
- Gad (Perseverance) Blessed
- Asher (Skill) Blessed
- Naphtali (Impact) Blessed
- Joseph (Leadership) Blessed
- Benjamin (Strong) Blessed
The message causes us to examine our own lives for evidence of each of these characteristics found in Jacob’s sons in order to determine if we ourselves are on a path of blessing or cursing. The good news is that through Jesus Christ, we can change our path if it is faulty.
