California Voters Say No To Gay Marriage

Thursday, November 6th, 2008 by Ty Wallace posted in Political Issues | No Comments »

California voters have adopted a constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage which will overturn the recent California Supreme Court decision that gave gay couples the right to marry just months ago. The passage of Proposition 8 represents a crushing political defeat for gay rights activists, who had hoped public opinion on the contentious issue had shifted enough since the state overwhelmingly passed an earlier gay marriage ban in 2000 to help them defeat the measure.

Clergy Appreciation Month Draws Near End

Monday, October 27th, 2008 by Ty Wallace posted in Christian Living | No Comments »

If you have yet to appreciate your pastor, minister or other clergy people, you have one week left. October is Clergy Appreciation Month, a time when parishioners have the opportunity to recognize the contribution their leader makes in their life and community. This of course should be done year-round but it is nice to have a special time of the year that focuses specifically on them and their ministry they provide. "Clergy Appreciation Month is not ...

Should Christians Celebrate or Observe Halloween?

Friday, October 17th, 2008 by Ty Wallace posted in Christian Living | 20 Comments »

Every since I became a Christian in 1988, I have loathed the Halloween holiday. While I love some horror movies, a good haunted house and even monsters, gouls and ghosts in general, something about celebrating a holiday that is steeped in pagan rites and rituals just doesn't sit right with me as a follower of Christ. So the question of whether to celebrate or even observe a holiday that in the United States has become ...

Connecticut Becomes Third State To Legalize Gay Marriage

Friday, October 10th, 2008 by Ty Wallace posted in Political Issues | 1 Comment »

Connecticut's Supreme Court ruled Friday that homosexual couples have the right to marry, making the state the third behind Massachusetts and California to legalize gay unions through the courts. The ruling comes just weeks before Californians go to the polls on a historic gay-"marriage" ballot question. The court ruled 4-3 that gay and lesbian couples cannot be denied the freedom to marry under the state constitution. It was a logical next step for a state that ...

The Terminator Continues To Squash Religious Freedom & Moral Values

Thursday, October 9th, 2008 by Ty Wallace posted in Political Issues | No Comments »

California Governor Arnold "I'll be back" Schwarzenegger signed three bills last week that many conservatives say will further squash moral values and religious freedom in that state. "Under these new laws, foster parents, nurses, doctors, health insurance plans, city and county commissions, and court-appointed children's advocates must abandon their moral, social or financial values at the altar of the homosexual-bisexual-transsexual agenda,” stated Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, on Friday. “This crate load ...

The United States a Christian Nation? Think Again!

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 by Ty Wallace posted in Christian Living | 1 Comment »

While the United States may have been originally founded as a Christian nation or at least based on Christian values, to say that the U.S. is a Christian nation today is to fool ourselves. As God becomes less evident in our schools, our government, our money, the media, and even our homes, this country continues to move further and further away from traditional Christian values. Think I am wrong? Just look at how twisted our values ...

Are You Evolving As A Christian? Is It For Good or For Bad?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 by Ty Wallace posted in Christian Living | No Comments »

I was having an interesting discussion with a Christian brother and very good friend a few days ago. He mentioned an individual at his work who claimed to be a Christian due to the fact that he believed in God, went to church on a regular basis and didn't cuss. However, my friend observed some "not so Christian-friendly" traits in this guy including the fact that he was very lazy, had a very short fuse ...

10 Commandements For Christian Bloggers

Monday, September 29th, 2008 by Ty Wallace posted in Internet & Tech | No Comments »

Church leaders from around the world have drawn up a new set of the Ten Commandments aimed at delivering “God bloggers” from the temptations of the blogosphere. Alarmed by the extent to which religious blogs can descend into vitriol, senior evangelical clergy are calling on bloggers to obey the new commandments or risk perdition. The commandments, based on the original ones delivered to Moses by God Himself at the top of Mount Sinai, were drawn up ...

Gospelr: Twitter For Christians

Friday, September 19th, 2008 by Ty Wallace posted in Internet & Tech | 1 Comment »

Part chat, part instant messaging, part micro-blogging, new service Gospelr aims to be the "Twitter" for Christians. Gospelr is quick to point out that it’s not "just another Twitter." Instead, the site prides itself on being the world’s first “Ministry Microblogging” tool for those that want to share thoughts, ideas, words of encouragement, prayer requests, daily scripture readings, and oh so much more. One way, although minor, that Gospelr tries to differentiate itself from twitter is ...

Dead Sea Scrolls To Be Digitized and Placed Online

Sunday, August 31st, 2008 by Ty Wallace posted in Bible & Scripture | No Comments »

Israel Antiquities Authority, the keeper of the Dead Sea scrolls, has announced that they have begun a two-year process to digitally photograph every fragment of the more than 2,000-year-old ancient text and then make them available for all to see online. Although it is pretty basic knowledge that the scrolls exist, they have only been photographed once in the 1950s and actually seen by a handful of scholars. Now, thanks to the effort to place them ...
