Hawaii Governor Rejects Same-Sex Civil Unions Bill

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010 by Ty Wallace posted in Political Issues | Comments Off

In a victory for the fight to maintain the definition of traditional marriage between one man and one woman, Hawaii's Governor, Linda Lingle, vetoed a bill Tuesday that would have legalized same-sex civil unions.

Teaching the Bible in Public School

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010 by Dan Carrington posted in Political Issues | Comments Off

It looks as if Texas is not the only place one can find the Bible being taught as part of the public school curriculum. A school district in California has just unanimously passed a vote to include an elective class that teaches the Bible from the standpoint of its being a work of literature and history. The school district must carefully craft this curriculum so as not to breach any California statutes and it must adhere ...

Wisconsin Supreme Court Upholds Gay Marriage Ban

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010 by Ty Wallace posted in Political Issues | Comments Off

The Christian Post is reporting that the Wisconsin Supreme Court upheld a state constitutional amendment today that affirms traditional marriage and bans same-sex civil unions. The court ruled 7-0, stating in the opinion that "the marriage amendment was adopted by the people of Wisconsin using the process prescribed by the constitution, and is properly now part of our constitution." A victory indeed in the fight to preserve "traditional marriage."

Another Blow To Religious Freedom: Supreme Court Rules against Christian Legal Group

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010 by Ty Wallace posted in Political Issues | Comments Off

In yet another blow to our religious freedoms, the U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that a Christian student group must accept gays and non-Christians as members if it wants to be officially recognized by a public university. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, writing for the court's 5-4 majority, said the "all-comers" policy at the University of California's Hastings College of the Law is "reasonable" and "viewpoint neutral."

A-B-C Plan

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010 by Dan Carrington posted in Christian Living, Political Issues | Comments Off

We've all heard of the ABC plan for fighting against the spread of the AIDS virus. If you haven't, it came out during (I think actually from but I can't be sure) the previous presidential administration. The basic idea of the ABC plan is pretty simple. The 'A' stands for "Abstinence." In other words, the idea here is that one way to slow the spread of AIDS is to abstain from sexual activity. This part of ...

The Nobel Peace Prize Doesn’t Always Go to the Most Deserving

Thursday, December 17th, 2009 by Ty Wallace posted in Political Issues | 1 Comment »

When I heard that President Barak Obama had won the Nobel Peace Prize, my first thought was , "For what?" Many in the world share the same thought. Then a friend sent me a very interesting write-up on another individual who was in consideration for the prize in 2007 but was passed over for Al Gore. I thought I'd post it here for your consideration.

The Changing Meaning of Words

Thursday, December 17th, 2009 by Dan Carrington posted in Political Issues | Comments Off

I think I’ve hit this topic before, but it seems worth going over once again. There definitely seems to be an issue of misunderstanding with regards to certain concepts and the language used to represent them. Two of the most prominent of these are the common uses of words like “intolerance” and “fundamentalism.” Interestingly, these two words are often found being used alongside one another. We hear all the time about how those “fundamentalists” are being ...

Social Injustice

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009 by Dan Carrington posted in Political Issues | Comments Off

It may be stating the blatantly obvious to say that there are a large number of differing ideologies between the liberal left and the conservative right. The way these two sides of the political spectrum tend to be marketed is, I think, very misleading. At least insofar as I understand the differences between the two. Without going too far down the many rabbit trails that one could be tempted by in this topic, the one area ...

Equal Rights in School

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 by Dan Carrington posted in Political Issues | 2 Comments »

Double standards always seem to fascinate me. Sometimes atheists have them. Sometimes Christians have them. In some way, I wouldn't be surprised if we all have some double standards of our own. Public school is one of those places that one of the secular double standards rears its ugly head. I wouldn't have a big problem with it if it weren't for the fact that this is a very influential time for kiddos and if their ...

Freedom of Speech

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009 by Dan Carrington posted in Political Issues | 3 Comments »

When I hear about some of the issues going on today in this nation with respect to the "separation of church and state" (and don't get me started on how out of context that is often taken) it is beginning to remind me of CD release from back in the late '80s or early '90s by rapper Ice-T. The name of one of his albums was "Freedom of Speech: Just Watch What You Say." There are ...
