Conquering Northern Island
Marmon O’Neil and another Viking set out to conquer North Ireland agreeing that the first man to set his hand on the land would be the possessor. As they both neared the land, Captain O’Neil became
desperate because it appeared the other Viking would arrive first, so he cut off his own hand and heaved it upon the shore thus winning the conquest. This is where the red hand in the Northern Ireland Flag
originated.
