Faith
God & The Spider
During World War II, a US marine was separated from his unit on a
Pacific Island. The fighting had been intense, and in the smoke and
the crossfire he had lost touch with his comrades. Alone in the
jungle, he could hear enemy soldiers coming in his direction.
Scrambling for cover, he found his way up a high ridge to several
small caves in the rock. Quickly he crawled inside one of the caves.
Although safe for the moment, he realized that once the enemy
soldiers looking for him swept up the ridge, they would quickly
search all the caves and he would be killed. As he waited, he
prayed, "Lord, if it be your will, please protect me. Whatever your
will though, I love you and trust you. Amen."
After praying, he lay quietly listening to the enemy begin to draw
close. He thought, "Well, I guess the Lord isn't going to help me
out of this one.."
Then he saw a spider begin to build a web over the front of his
cave. As he watched, listening to the enemy searching for him all
the while, the spider layered strand after strand of web across the
opening of the cave. "Ha," he thought. "What I need is a brick wall
and what the Lord has sent me is a spider web. God does have a sense
of humor."
As the enemy drew closer he watched from the darkness of his hideout
and could see them searching one cave after another. As they came to
his, he got ready to make his last stand. To his amazement, however,
after glancing in the direction of his cave, they moved on.
Suddenly, he realized that with the spider web over the entrance,
his cave looked as if no one had entered for quite a while. "Lord,
forgive me," prayed the young man. "I had forgotten that in you a
spider's web is stronger than a brick wall."
We all face times of great trouble. When we do, it is so easy to
forget the victories that God would work in our lives, sometimes in
the most surprising ways. As the great leader, Nehemiah, reminded
the people of Israel when they faced the task of rebuilding
Jerusalem, "In God we will have success!"

sure that it is the proper resolution. Because I do not sleep nor do I slumber, there is no need for you to lose any sleep. Rest my child. If you need to contact me, I am only a prayer away.

Prayer in the Alley
A young university student, was home for the summer. She had gone to visit some friends one evening and time passed quickly as each shared their various experiences of the past year.
She ended up staying longer than planned, and had to walk home alone. She wasn't afraid because it was a small town and she lived only a few blocks away.
As she walked along under the tall elm trees, Diane asked God to keep her safe from harm and danger. When she reached the alley, which was a short cut to her house, she decided to take it. However, halfway
down the alley she noticed a man standing at the end as though he were waiting for her.
She became uneasy and began to pray, asking for God's protection. Instantly a comforting feeling of quietness and security wrapped around her, she felt as though someone was walking with her.
When she reached the end of the alley, she walked right past the man and arrived home safely.
The following day, she read in the newspaper that a young girl had been raped in the same alley just twenty minutes after she had been there.
Feeling overwhelmed by this tragedy and the fact that it could have been her, she began to weep. Thanking the Lord for her safety and to help this young woman, she decided to go to the police station. She
felt she could recognize the man, so she told them her story.
The police asked her if she would be willing to look at a lineup to see if she could identify him.. She agreed and immediately pointed out the man she had seen in the alley the night before. When the man
was told he had been identified, he immediately broke down and confessed.
The officer thanked Diane for her bravery and asked if there was anything they could do for her.
She asked if they would ask the man one question. Diane was curious as to why he had not attacked her. When the policeman asked him, he answered, Because she wasn't alone. She had two tall men walking on
