Why We Still Sin

Last week, I posted my thoughts on the substitutionary atonement of Christ. At the end of that post, I posed a question that I promised to address this week. It’s “next week” now, so I suppose I should keep my promise and address this issue.

Atheist or Agnostic?

In the past, I had often thought a certain way regarding the difference between someone who claims to be an atheist versus someone claiming to be agnostic. My understanding had been that atheism was a very arrogant claim. My understanding was that to be an atheist, one was claiming that there was certainly no God.

The Supreme Good (the Chief End of Man)

“What is the chief end of man?” It is a question as old as the existence of man himself. Not only is this a very important question we should be asking ourselves (as well as know the answer to) but there is really no way a person can avoid it, although many try.

And how so? If not by brushing it under a rug, people will take on one or more of the various philosophies of life currently present in our culture, all in an attempt to answer this most important question.

Evolution, Natural Selection & Random Mutation

There are some thoughts that I wanted to put down regarding the ideas of what has commonly been called the “Theory of Evolution.” I’m not certain that I’ll get to all of this in one post, so we’ll see how this goes.

Human Value

According to the Bible, Man was created in God’s image. It is upon this basis that Jesus makes His statement about the second greatest commandment which is to love your neighbor as yourself.

Weighing the Truth

Over time, if one pays attention to this sort of thing, one gets to see or hear a variety of different reasons for claiming something as truth. One can also see or hear many different ideas as to how these truths were determined to be true or not. This is something about which we must be very careful.

It’s Not My Place to Say

Has this ever happened to you? You’re talking with someone and there is mention of a situation where someone is choosing to do something you both agree is morally wrong. Yet, the person says, “Well, I’ve done the same thing, so I can’t really say anything.”

Is It Christian, Or Is It Culture?

More and more, these days, we continue to hear skeptics deride Christianity for many reasons. Some of them are completely absurd and untrue. Sadly, quite a few of the complaints about Christians are true. At least, to the extent that they accurately depict a fairly large majority of professed Christians.

False Options

In so many conversations I’ve had or heard, there is an interesting and common thing that I hear over and over again. Typically, this is when the “conversation” is more of a debate of some sort. Whether about theology, politics or whatever something strange often happens.

Send Your Tweets To the Almighty?

Want to reach God on Twitter? Not that you really need a Twitter account to talk to the Almighty as He already hears the prayers of the righteous. That be it may, an Israeli university student has taken upon himself to open a Twitter account that will allow fellow tweeters to tweet prayers that he will then place in the crevices of Jerusalem’s Western Wall, a Jewish holy site that faithful believe provides a direct line to the Almighty.
